Miranda + Michael | Bissell Tree House Wedding

The zoo was filled with love birds and party animals

Overlooking the very place where they first met, there was a deep sense of importance and meaning as Miranda + Michael exchanged their vows amongst the autumn-colored treetops of the John Ball Zoo. There was laughter, heartfelt tears, and calming joy that washed over everyone gathered with them.

Once co-workers here, Miranda and Michael found a deep connection with one another through their shared love of animals. A few dates, a proposal, a couple of fur babbies, and months of planning later, it only felt right to host their wedding day at the zoo’s iconic Bissell Tree House.

Even from the beginning, it was a day filled with so much intentionality. From both Miranda and Michael getting ready in their respective childhood homes, their favorite colors displayed in their wedding party’s attire, the cutest little “fall leaf boys” you’ve ever seen, walking down the aisle together during their processional, and a reception hall gorgeously designed and decorated by Miranda’s mom; there were so many meaningful choices made on their day, each one completely reflecting their unfolding story together.

And when the rain let up, we ventured into the woods

You take my hand, and I’ll take yours…

One of the most unique and deeply profound moments from their entire day was Miranda and Michael’s decision to walk hand in hand down the aisle together — both giving of themselves to this union — a true reflection of their shared commitment to the beginning of this new season in their lives.

A cozy cocktail hour on the patio

In the fall, especially in Michigan, golden hour is often a rare moment to catch. Even with the sun being hidden behind soft rain clouds for the majority of the day, Miranda and Michael still took a moment during dinner to sneak away, catch their breath, sip some champagne, and look out at the lit-up downtown skyline of their city.

But the night was just beginning, and the celebrating was far from over
